Sometimes I really want a rich brownie, but I also crave chocolate chip cookie dough at the same time.

That is why I created these dairy free protein cookie dough brownies, which give you the best of both worlds in one simple square.
Keeping this treat dairy free was essential for me because real butter and heavy milk often cause stomach discomfort for so many people.

I also mixed protein powder into both layers, which makes each bite satisfying and keeps you full much longer than standard desserts.
They chill nicely in the fridge, slice cleanly, and make a fantastic everyday snack whenever you need a chocolate fix.
Why This Recipe Is a Keeper
Two Treats in One – You get rich fudge brownies and chocolate chip cookie dough in every single bite.
Completely Dairy-Free – Enjoy a totally decadent bakery-style dessert without a single drop of dairy butter or milk.

Amazing Layered Texture – Each square combines a fudgy bottom, velvety cookie dough, and a snappy chocolate shell.
Packed with Protein – Both vanilla and chocolate protein powder give this sweet dessert an energizing nutrition boost.
Here’s What You’ll Need
For the Brownie Layer
- 4 oz Dairy Free Dark Chocolate, Chopped
- 1/3 cup Dairy Free Butter
- 3/4 cup Granulated Sugar
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1/2 cup Almond Flour
- 1/4 cup Dairy Free Chocolate Protein Powder
- 1/4 cup Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
- 1/4 tsp Salt
For the Cookie Dough Layer
- 1/4 cup Cashew Butter
- 2 tbsp Dairy Free Butter, Softened
- 3 tbsp Maple Syrup
- 2 tbsp Coconut Sugar
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 3/4 cup Almond Flour
- 1/2 cup Dairy Free Vanilla Protein Powder
- 1 pinch Salt
- 1-2 tbsp Unsweetened Almond Milk
- 1/3 cup Dairy Free Mini Chocolate Chips
For the Chocolate Topping
- 3 oz Dairy Free Dark Chocolate, Chopped
- 1 tsp Coconut Oil
How to Make It
Step 1
Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving overhang on two sides.
Step 2
Melt the chocolate and butter together in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Whisk in the sugar, then whisk in the eggs one at a time and the vanilla until the batter turns thick and glossy.
Step 3
Fold in the almond flour, chocolate protein powder, cocoa powder and salt until just combined, then spread the batter evenly into the pan.
Step 4
Bake for 20 to 24 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with moist crumbs. Cool completely, then chill for 30 minutes so the cookie dough layer spreads cleanly.
Step 5
For the cookie dough, beat the cashew butter, softened butter, maple syrup, coconut sugar and vanilla until creamy. Add the almond flour, vanilla protein powder and salt and mix into a soft dough, adding almond milk 1 tablespoon at a time only if it feels dry, then fold in the mini chocolate chips.
Step 6
Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the chilled brownies and press it into an even layer with a spatula or damp fingertips.
Step 7
Melt the chopped chocolate with the coconut oil until smooth and spread it over the cookie dough. Chill for 30 minutes until set, then cut into 16 squares.

Recipe Tips
Choose the Right Protein Powder
Plant-based protein powders absorb liquid very quickly, so I recommend using a pea and rice protein blend rather than straight hemp or soy.
Some powders have a gritty texture, so picking a smooth, finely ground brand keeps both your brownie base and the cookie dough soft and rich.
Cool the Chocolate Before Adding Eggs
After you melt the dairy-free chocolate and butter together, let the mixture sit on the counter for three to four minutes to cool down slightly.

If the chocolate mixture is too hot when you add the eggs, it will start cooking them instantly and ruin the smooth texture of your batter.
Whisk the Eggs Until Thick and Glossy
You will get the best results if you whisk the sugar, eggs, and vanilla together briskly for a full minute or two.
Whisking until the mixture turns pale and glossy dissolves the sugar crystals and creates that classic fudgy brownie texture.

Popular Questions
Which type of dairy-free protein powder works best?
A plant-based blend made with pea and brown rice protein works best because it blends smoothly without drying out the batter.
Try to avoid using pure pea protein by itself, as it absorbs extra moisture quickly and can leave behind a slightly chalky flavor.
